Wordpress - Targeting google ads
Ever wonder why when you put a google ad on your site it shows results that have nothign to do with the content you are writing about ? google adsense takes all the content on your webpage by default to select ads. For example on my site I use the words wordpress hosting alot. Google will show an ad for “hosting” an exchange student from abroad. While this is funny, my audience will not be clicking on these irrelevant ads. There are a few ways to get around this problem.
Key wording density. Search engines love keyword density and so does google adsense. Keyword density alone does not help google adsense select the best ds to show on your site as in my previous example. Grouping keyword densitiy such as always using the words wordpress hosting, or blog hosting; in pairs betters the chances that you will get releavant ads. Google will see that both words have the same keyword density, as in you are using those words the most and at about the same frequency.
Since we are talking about wordpress blogs there is a trick i found will searching, i call this google targeting. This allows you to use the content of your post as a targeted section in which google will use the words from this section to show relevant ads. If you look at my google ad on my pages you will see that they show relevant content related to my posts to do this i used a few pieces of code.
To have google adsense target your post put this at the beginning of your post section:
<!– google_ad_section_start–>
and this at the end:
<!– google_ad_section_end–>
It will take a few days before google will start targeting this section, to test that you put the code in the right place, upload your changes. View the site in a browser and “view source” you can then search for the word google_ad_section and see all the references. You should have a start and finish section for each article you have on the page.
