The newer plans are including so much space that if four customers used all the space they were allocated there would be no space left for the other customers on the server.
Most shared hosting servers have restrictions on the physical resources you can use such as CPU and memory. You will use the physical resources on the server allocated to you before you ever use the disk space allocated to you. The web hosting companies know this, but customers want to get the most for their money. What you are getting for your money is measured beyond diskspace and bandwidth. Test the customer service at these companies. Are they there when you will be working on your site? Are the friendly? Do they rush you off the phone or are they personable and professional. You are paying for quality customer service, that is what sets one company apart from the others.
