March 25, 2009 By: solarbluseth Category: Purchasing Help, Web Hosting Directory No Comments →

A friend of mine has been running SEO services for a few years now. He has just launched a new site  SEO services. Since I have lost my Google PR from changing server types, windows to linux (it’s not a myth). I was PR 4 Right before I switched and less than a month I lost all my hard work. I decided what can I lose by finally hiring to do my SEO for me ? Nothing in fact I’ll gain some time. I just switched from a windows to a mac and I have to say the SEO software I accustomed to on  PC is just not available on the mac at this time. Time to do my own PHP code (again). Anyways, I degress. I hired http://toprankedsitestoday.com/ to do my SEO services this week after one of my other sites hit number one on google in around 7 days! It was almost too good to be ttue. If your site has content and is W3C complaint contact them today. Their prices wont last long as more and more customers realize the value of great seo.

Want to know who should have hired his services ? ToysRUs pays $5m for toys domain. After they bought the domain they reported lost traffic and creditibility with google for transferring the domain to a new registrar. Toys.com looses google ranking.

Solarblu.net moved to number one for cheap wordpress themes after hiring thier services. After spending years reciprical trading with no avail they have since shut down thier link trading and re-focused and more traditional SEO through thier services. This in tandem with updating thier site to follow strict W3c Standards, adding a wordpress theme store, new articles and tips will help them be successful in this down economy. Solarblu.net offers unique wordpress themes for around $150 a theme and premade themes for around $45 a theme. Thier new premade theme store will be online April 1st.

Basic advantages of Linux server hosting and windows server hosting

When you are going to hire a hosting service to build your website for your small business then you need to know the basic pieces of information. You are the best person to judge that what required features are and what about your budget.

Commonly, this choice to host your website depends upon the scripting language that is used in your website. If languages like PHP, MySQL, or Perl are used in your website, Linux server hosting is preferable. But if you are thinking for ASP.Net scripting language then your finest choice would the window hosting.

If you need some interactive facilities like chat or searchable database, Linux may not be the best choice. Also, a Linux-based web server is not fully acquiescent with Windows technologies. If you are using any Windows-centric technologies like Visual Basic, then Windows-based servers would be the required choice for you.

Advantages of Linux server hosting

1. Linux is an open source software product and thus it does not need the high licensing fees that other operating systems do; you can freely download and use it at no cost.

2. A Linux website can easily be converted to a Windows website without much hassle. Also, the website can easily be changed as the requirement of the user grows.

3. Linux web hosting is very economical as Linux is a free operating system. Usually, only the cost of distribution is borne by the host or owner.

4. When the scripting language like PHP, MySQL, or Perl etc. are required for your website then Linux server hosting is the most reliable and cost effective solution for you. Unless heavy load of scripting language, this will not be traceable.

5. There are many kinds of databases that run on Linux hosting, but the most widespread most likely among web host providers are mSQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL. These databases are relational by nature, and permit vastly optimized communication with your website for rapid reclamation of data.

6. By lots of circles Linux hosting is supposed to be much securing than Windows hosting, and for that reason only Linux server hosting is also the more popular choice for web designers and programmers.

Advantages of windows server hosting

1. .NET technologies like ASP.net VB.net are available on this platform. If you have a website built with Microsoft .NET technologies then you will have to choose a Windows server hosting plan.

2. If you need an enterprise class database there are some different features that run on a Linux platform but if you need Microsoft’s MSSQL database, a Windows hosting plan will be your best choice.

3. Access Databases are only obtainable with a Windows server hosting plan. Access can only run on a Microsoft Windows platform and thus it is unavailable on a Linux hosting. If your site needs particularly this feature then you will have to accept windows server hosting.

4. If you are using some of the Microsoft’s Sharepoint services a Windows Hosting plan is only reliable choice for you.

5. Windows plans typically much costly because of the license costs compulsory by Microsoft.

Normally, Linux server hosting plans are at least 20% economical than windows server hosting plans. If you need not to have any unique features for your website, like cart, searchable database etc, Linux server hosting is a finest alternative for your needs.

When you are required for specific Microsoft technologies, Windows hosting plans generally will be your favorable think. But for all small business owner needs Linux hosting plans will generally perform quite well for its cost effective features.

The Different Web Hosting Plan for Your Online Business

The Different Web Hosting Plan for Your Online Business

In the era of computerization where most of the work is dependent on computers, Web Hosting plays an important role to all business activities. It allows individuals and organizations to provide their own websites accessible through World Wide Web. Those that are relatively new to web hosting, they stagger confusion to the quest for a good web hosting plan. One of the major sources of this confusion may simply come down to what is what where web hosting plans are concerned.

We must learn the different types of Web Hosting that contributes its usefulness to all business sectors. These are shared web hosting, dedicated hosting and virtual dedicated hosting. They vary mostly in price and fill different needs as far as hosting plans are concerned.

Shared web hosting is used to refer to when a hosting company puts websites from many different users on one server. Every user is usually given some limit to the amount of resources their site is able to consume. It is basically a type wherein several to hundreds of websites are being hosted by a single physical web server. The issue of slower performance often arises in here. A reputable web host doesn’t easily add up web sites without considering their would-be effects to the entire system. Shared hosting is really cost effective.

Dedicated hosting is the most expensive web hosting among the three. It is considered as the reverse of shared hosting. Instead of sharing a server with other users you are in effect renting an entire server for yourself. Usually, all of the resources of the server are at your disposal. Many times hosting companies give you several options for the type of server you can rent and the operating system it runs. It is applicable either for bigger sites or for the webmaster who has 200 web sites and is tired of paying for 200 shared hosting accounts

Virtual dedicated hosting is a combination of a shared web hosting and a dedicated server. The software on server is able to break it down into multiple “virtual” servers. The effect is basically like having several servers on the same machine. You would be paying for one of these virtual servers. A virtual dedicated server lets you run your sites as if you had your own “dedicated” server, except it is cheaper because you are really just using part of a server that has been split into multiple virtual dedicated servers. Virtual servers allow you the flexibility of customizing your server settings as if you were renting a dedicated server but since you are actually sharing a server with other users you pay much less. Its price is usually a bit higher than shared web hosting.
There are several web hosting providers in the locality but only few can be trusted. Look for the providers that are high in quality, high in performance and high-availability. Other factors to be considered are cost-effective, scalable, and customizable to meet the evolving business and technical requirements of companies. Pick the best plan that’s right for you. There are thousands of sites offering quality information about web hosting that will help you to fill in any gaps in your knowledge and enable you to make the best possible decision.

Domain name | Website | Domain name registration

Domain name | Website | Domain name registration

If you are planning to buy Internet domain name for your online business, there are few things that should be kept in mind during and after the procedure of domain name registration. The foremost thing that has to be thought about in the entire process is to select a domain name for your online business. This may sound very easy at this point of time, but with the proliferation in online business, thinking of a unique domain name that reflects the purpose of your website is a very difficult task. It involves a lot of brainstorming sessions along with an in-depth search over the entire thing.

You can discuss about the domain name with your friends and family members and finally choose the one that best suits your requirements. Your domain name should be the one that is short, simple, reflects the purpose of your business and easy to remember by the users. It is not necessary for your domain name to be the one similar to your company name, until the name of your business is popular enough to be known like brand name. Once you have thought about a suitable domain name, you can move further for domain name check to see if the domain name that you are thinking about has not already been taken by anyone else. Once you have verified that your domain name is unique, do not delay the process at all and go for your domain name registration. These services are mainly provided by the website hosting providers only along with other services, but you can also get them done through separate service providers who only register domain name. Do not forget to check if your registrar is a certified ICANN registrar for domain names. This is because; only ICANN registrar is the one that certifies businesses which have the right processes and technology. Besides, this gives you a platform to complaint with ICANN in case your service provider fouls you.

You can also consider domain name transfer, if you are not satisfied with the previous one. However, if you are also willing to change your domain name registrar as well, make sure that it is at least 60 days old; otherwise ICANN registrar will not allow it. However, if you want to renew it with your previous registrar only, wait for at least 45 days, otherwise the amount paid for renewal will not add one more year to your previous date of expiry and instead, the money submitted will go waste.

It is better to do a thorough search before selecting a web host or a registrar because, you will have to be associated with them for the coming few years. You can read reviews, talk to people over the discussion forums and ask for their experiences with particular web host or registrar. This way, you will know both their pros and cons and select the best domain name registrar or website hosting provider that will ensure the success of your online business. As passionate about your server as you are about your site.

May 21, 2008 By: solarbluseth Category: Purchasing Help, Tech Support No Comments →

As client
services manager I try to help customers who have a wide variety of issues. As
a website designer myself and with my years of industry experience I try to
help website owners bridge the gap between what they would like to get out of
their website to the tools they need to make that happen. Sometimes it is easy
as asking the customer what they need directly. Sometimes its take a more
background roll. I look at tickets and chats everyday of the week to make sure
our team is providing the right answers and to ensure we have the right
documentation to support common questions.

Sometimes
tech support is quite simply about directing traffic. “you go here and
click on that”. As a webmaster I know what questions and tools I would need to have to complete
a project. For example a new wordpress site.
“what version of wordpress do you support?” “how many databases
does this plan include ?” I try to
cover as much as I can in our site midphasehelp.com there is a questions form
you can fill out which goes to my personal mailbox
if you need a question answered that is not on the site
. I look for the answer and respond back to them. For useful
information it is reposted to midphasehelp.com and keywords are added to help
other customers find the answer.

This system
also helps with internal tech support. If they can’t find the answer there they
let me know and the solution is added so everyone on the team and customers now
have a consistent answer to the question. This
helps streamline processes as well as helps our tech support gain the
perspective of the customer.

One
of the things I try to teach anyone who provides customer service is customer
perspective. How did a customer get to the problem ? Can you replicate the
problem ? Is the customer using webmail, outlook, or mac mail ? Studying the
control panel and learning how things work greatly helps resolve customer
issues. For example, you can get to webmail through cpanel and through a direct
browser address. Sometimes customers viewing email through cpanel will actually
be checking email for the cpanel account and not their own email. Even if you
know how to get somewhere in the control panel there may be a different way the
customer has found. You should always be willing to learn from a customer. Its
ok to say “oh I didn’t know you could there that way, ill make a note of
that for future reference.” its ok to be the tech support person and not
know everything, it actually makes you more personable. Me, I’m a know it all
but I still listen to my customers and try to find out how they use technology.

Avoid Troubles When You Are Changing Your Hosting Provider

May 20, 2008 By: solarbluseth Category: Purchasing Help, Tech Support, Web Hosting Directory, Website Tutorials No Comments →

Avoid Troubles When You Are Changing Your Hosting Provider

If you chose a wrong web host when you intended to promote your business with the help of a site and now problems occurred you have to change the service. The usual reason why online marketers change their web host is because their website needs expansion. In these conditions, if the web host does not provide a high level of technical support and does not provide you with enough disk space and data transfer then you may to move to a new web host. There are a few things you should to know when moving your domain to a new web host so that the transfer would be made properly.

The first thing that must be prepared when you are going to change your web host is to make copies for everything concerning your website and to check whether the archives to the content on your website are well done. Archiving you website’s content is not a task that should be completed only when you move to a new web host. This must be done every once in a while because that way you will avoid losing the information in case problems like hardware failure occur. This is a easy solution to maintain the integrity of your website and will make it easier for you to change your actual web host.

As soon as these tasks are completed you can start looking for a new web host. The most important thing when you do that is to assure that the new company can provide you hosting plans that are at least as good as the ones provided by the old web host. You do not need to move to a service that offers you less than what you already have. Then, try to find something to suit your new needs that the old web host could not anymore. You can use different search utilities to see whether a web service can offer you the technical support that you need and if it can fulfill your new requirements.

After you choose a new web host you have to upload the archive as was described above. When all the content is transferred to the new service they will provide you a new IP and then you have to transfer you domain name to the new web host. This transfer requires a period of time between 1-2 days. This is why you should still keep your old site in this period. In all this time you have to do different tests to make sure that the site works properly. This means that you must keep both your old service and the new web hosting for a while.

The moment when you cancel your old service should be the moment when you stop receiving e-mails on the old account. Until that moment you have to verify all the e-mails that come to both your old and your new account. As you can see, transfering your domains to a new web host does not imply too many troubles if you consider each step. If you wait and see how your new site is during the transfer and perform some tests you will move it to a new web host without any problems.

What To Look For In Web Hosting?

May 16, 2008 By: solarbluseth Category: Purchasing Help, Web Hosting Directory No Comments →

What To Look For In Web Hosting?

Many people will agree that searching for a web hosting provider can be a very difficult task, especially if you are unsure what you are looking for in the first place. There are certain things that you can look out for to get the best results and make it easier for yourself. The main thing to do when looking for web hosting providers is to research each company before you agree to anything, this will ensure that you are happy with their performance in the past and give you a good idea of what to expect.

By reading previous customer testimonials will give you a lot of insight of how they operate and treat customers, this may play a big role in your decision. However, web hosting reviews from other people may not be 100% accurate and you need to keep this in mind. At the end of the day you don’t know who has written those reviews so there are other things to look out for to get the best deal you can.

Check with the company what limitations you will have, some web hosts will actually limit your traffic allowance each month so you need to make sure you don’t go over that limit as you may face some hefty charges, more times than not you will be able to increase this limit by upgrading your package with them. Many people will start off on the lower package and work their way up as the performance of their sites will no doubt increase, this means that you won’t be spending unnecessary money in the early stages which is vital to new sites/businesses.

Along with traffic limitations, some web hosting providers will limit how much content you can actually upload, this may be a problem if you plan on making a monster site so you are best firstly identifying the purpose of the website is. Again, if you were to go over this limit you may be billed a large sum for breaking the terms of that package or you simply may not be able to upload anything until the new billing month begins.

What is Shared and Dedicated Hosting?

May 14, 2008 By: solarbluseth Category: Purchasing Help, Website Marketing, Website Tutorials 1 Comment →

What is Shared and Dedicated Hosting?

There are many types of hosting accounts, so you need to put the research in to find the most suitable for your needs. You may be looking for a more complex hosting plan for your business or something simple to facilitate your small hobby site up - either way you can be sure to find the perfect package that will meet your requirements.

The main decision you will have to make is if you want shared hosting or dedicated hosting. Many people will begin with a shared hosting plan until they find their feet and their website becomes more popular. Shared hosting is where the server is split up into different partitions with each partition being sold separately. In effect, each website owner shares the same server with other website owners and will often share the same IP address. This could cause problem in relation to the speed of the website as the more information and data on the server, the longer it will take to process actions for all the websites.

Shared hosting is the most popular form of hosting due to its cost - shared hosting costs are far less that a dedicated server which appeals to everyone, especially if you are just starting out and haven’t seen the potential your website has to offer.

The major downside to shared hosting is that you have less control over the server and you will not be able to unilateraly change or perform tasks to server without the permission of the web hosting provider and the owners of the other sites that are stored on the same shared server.

Dedicated hosting is where you actually hire out your own server within a company. This means that your websites will be the only ones uploaded onto that specific server. The main benefit is that you be able to manage your privacy and security more comprehensively as your details will not be on the same server as anyone else’s. Often the upload and traffic limits are much higher because you are the only person the server has to deal with.

Along with these advantages dedicated hosting does have its downsides - the cost is much greater than shared hosting plus to effectively manage and maintain your server to your specifications, you may want to be located closer to your web hosting provider.

In conclusion, when starting out, it is recommended that you choose from a shared web hosting provider and as your traffic increases, switch to a dedicated host.
